Hello my name is Mrs. Tracy Whitaker.  I came to Calera Schools in August of 1997.  I have taught 7th and 8th grade over  the 19 past  years.  I enjoy teaching Reading, and  English skills  to my students.

I am married to the Walmart Frito Lay man and have three adult sons.  I also have an amazing two daughters in law and three grandchildren.

I was born in Denton, Texas and spent my elementary years in Las Vegas, Nevada.  My family moved back to Paris, Texas when I was in the 7th grade. When I was in the 11th grade my dad took a job with Wyerhauser in Valliant, Oklahoma.  My parents still live in Valliant.  I graduated from Valliant High School and went to college at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  I recieved my BS degree from SOSU and completed my student teaching in Duncan, Oklahoma.

While in college, I was a member the flag corps, student senate, baptist collegiate ministries and dorm manager for my floor.  I met my husband of 37 years ago, while in college.  We made our first home in Duncan, Oklahoma and later moved to Dallas, Texas, Wynnewood, Oklahoma and then to Durant, Oklahoma in May of 1994.

Through the years I have recieved  a variety of teaching skills.  My first teaching position was at Wynnewood, Oklahoma.  I taught 9-12 business classes, accounting, keyboarding, general business and yearbook for seven years.    I then went onto Joy Public schools.  While at Joy I taught a 7th & 8th grade contained classroom and then a 1st & 2nd contained classroom along with coaching girls basketball for 2 years.  My next position was at the Junvenile Dentention Center.  I worked as the classroom teacher for two years before taking a full-time position at Kingston High School.  I was at Kingston for 2 years as a high school business teacher.  Rock Creek high school had a business teacher position open so I took the position closer to home.  After being at Rock Creek for three years, I had the opportunity to come to Calera as a Junior High teacher; I accepted and the rest is history.

My classroom is now located in the new multipurpose building.  I am in room G1 or you may email at

I have been involved through GEAR UP programs, HOSTS reading programs, curriculum alignment, Veterans' day programs, class sponsor, academic team sponsor and a variety of other duties along the way.

I count it a privilege and enjoy being an educator in Bryan County.  I'm glad that I have the opportunity to be a part of Calera public schools.
