OHLAP/Oklahoma's Promise


OHLAP was established by the Oklahoma Legislature to assist students with tuition at Oklahoma colleges. OHLAP money may be used to cover in-state undergraduate tuition at public colleges and universities, certain vocational-technical courses or programs offered through “cooperative agreements” between public area technology centers and Oklahoma public colleges and universities. It may also be applied toward a portion of tuition at accredited private colleges or universities in Oklahoma. 
Eligibility:         1.      Must be an Oklahoma resident
                                   *NEW - Undocumented students may enroll, but must attain lawful status before receiving the award in college (applies to those enrolled after 2006-2007)
2.       Must be enrolled in 8th, 9th, or 10th grade
3.       Family federal adjusted gross income for most recent tax year must not exceed $55,000 at the time of     application
Participation:   1.        Must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA (overall and 17-unit core)
4.       Must complete required 17-unit core curriculum
5.       Must attend school regularly and graduate from high school
6.       Must not be involved in criminal activity, including drugs & alcohol
7.       Must provide information (upon request) to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education
8.       Must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) during senior year
* NEW for students receiving the award for the first time in 2009-2010!
9.     Parents income may not exceed $100,000 at the time of college entrance
10.   Minimum college GPA of 2.0 required for courses taken during the sophomore year and a minimum 2.5 GPA required for junior year and after
11.   An Oklahoma’s Promise college student that is suspended for more than one semester for conduct reasons will lose the scholarship permanently.
12.   Homeschool students are now eligible to participate with a 22 ACT composite on a national test date.
OHLAP Course Requirements
*Beginning with graduates in 2010 – OHLAP will match ACE Requirements.


English (grammar, composition, literature)
Lab Science (biology, chemistry, physics or any lab science certified by the school district; general science with or without a lab may NOT be used to meet requirements
Mathematics (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, geometry, trigonometry, math analysis, pre-calculus, calculus, Advanced Placement Statistics)
History and Citizenship Skills (including 1 unit of American History and 2 additional units from the subjects of history, economics, geography, government and/or non-western culture)
Foreign or Non-English language (two years of the same language)
Computer Technology (two units in programming, hardware, or business computer applications such as word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and graphics will qualify. Keyboarding or typing classes DO NOT qualify.
Additional courses of any of the subjects listed above
Fine Arts (music, art, drama) or speech
Total Core Units required   (+ electives to reach total graduation requirements)
